June - 2015 : NSAI MEMBERS LEND A HELPING HAND TO EARTHQUAKE AFFECTED FARMERS IN BIHAR

When earthquake hit the Himalayan country of Nepal it shook parts of India as well. The severity was unsurpassing; with unfortunate loss of life. The adjoining districts of Bihar, too suffered damage. Upon the clarion call of Shri M Prabhakar Rao, NSAI President, NSAI members came forward to actively contribute to the cause. The Seed distribution function was organized in Motihari, Bihar on 11th June, 2015. Hon'ble Union Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh presided over the event. Among the other dignitaries were Shri. Pramod Kumar, MLA, Motihari & Shri Ajay Singh, MLA, Raxaul. It is estimated that nearly 21,000 farmers will be benefitted from the Seed Donation....

May - 2015 : NATIONAL SEED ASSOCIATION OF INDIA ORGANISED WORKSHOP ON ABS GUIDELINES

National Seed Association of India organised a workshop on “Scope of ABS Guidelines” as per the latest th notification issued by Government of India on 25 April 2015 in Hyderabad. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Suvarna Chandrappagari, Member Secretary, Telangana State Biodiversity Board. It witnessed participation from all the stakeholders i.e. Government, Seed Industry and Research Institutions. Among the others were dignitaries from National Biodiversity Authority, Shri T. April - 2015 : NSAI REPRESENTS SEED INDUSTRY IN MEETING ORGANISED BY PPV&FRA TO DISCUSS ANNUAL FEE RETURN FORM

A meeting was organised by PPV&FRA to discuss revision of Annual Fee Return Form on 26th March, 2015 under the chairmanship of Dr. R.C. Agrawal, Registrar General, PPV&FRA. The Key highlights of the Meeting are as follows: NSAI recommended that instead of Seeds in Stock as on 31st March; it should be replaced as Seeds in Stock as on 1st April of preceding year and instead of Seeds produced it should be modified as seeds received. The suggestion was agreed upon by the participating members. Chairman clarified that column No.3 of draft annual fee return form would be re-modified as “Seeds received/  produced”. March - 2015 : NSAI Welcomes Union Budget 2015-16

We the ‘National Seed Association of India’ welcome the Budget and we strongly feel that Government’s Strategy would go a long way to rejuvenate the economic growth of the country going forward. Overall, the budget places considerable emphasis on agricultural renewal and agrarian prosperity. The allocations are moderate but a beginning has been made to look at the problems in farming in a more holistic manner. We hope this process will be continued and by the coming years ahead, we will see that many of the root causes of the prevailing agrarian distress are eliminated. ...

December- 2014 : RELIEF ASSISTANCE BY NSAI MEMBERS TO THE CYCLONE AFFECTED FARMERS OF ANDHRA PRADESH

The National Seed Association of India (NSAI) members have contributed Seeds worth Rs 1.55 Crores to the farmers of the severely affected regions of Cyclone HudHud. Shri.M. Prabhakara Rao, President, NSAI along with the representatives of the Seed industry association, met the Hon. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N. Chandra Babu Naidu and handed over the letter regarding the committed contribution on 27th October 2014. The seeds contributed as a part of the relief assistance is being distributed to support marginal farmers of areas severely affected by the cyclone. November - 2014 : Bangladesh, India and Nepal sign historic agreement in the evaluation of rice varieties

The Secretaries of Agriculture of the Governments of Bangladesh, India and Nepal signed a protocol on cooperation in the evaluation data of rice varieties released in their respective countries for release and commercialization. The agreement was made during the Regional Cooperation on Seed Issues workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal on 18 October 2014. The protocol on regional cooperation, which applies to rice varieties developed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and public sector organizations in the three countries, was hailed as historically significant by the agriculture executives.    ...
